Electrical wattage
Here is a veteran’s DJ estimate of our power usage
Re: Estimated power use break down
The transmitter puts out about 100 watts and maybe burns half again that much juice due to inefficiency.
So estimate about 150 watts power requirement for the transmitter.
Not so much for the rest of the equipment.
Maybe 100 watts total for the mixer, cd players, tape decks and turntables.
Add in another 150 watts for the computer so all told we're probably at about 400 watts consumption when everything is up and running.
If necessary, it could be in a van and running off one of those inverter things. Last mobile broadcast, a car battery powered a five watt and everything else ran off AA or 9-volt batteries, and got out just fine. It's good to have contingency plans.
Station paid $140 to catch up w/ power bill
